As of the 10th of December 2009, it will be possible to for .eu domain names to contain special characters such as à, ç, ö, é, etc.
Domain names such as café.eu, apfelstrüdel.eu, rüssel.eu, garçon.eu will be available for registration!
First come, first served.
However, this won’t be without difficulties since the European register covers more than 20 countries using different alphabets. And some of those alphabets, like the Cyrillic, contain characters which are very different from the Latin ones (not only with accents).
These registrations will have the specificity to propose two versions of a same internet address, and this, via the use of the “ACE string”. Because of this method, each IDN will be automatically transcribed on the database with ASCII characters. These addresses will all begin with “xn—“.
In order to make the registrations easier, the European register decided to simplify the launching procedures of these IDN:
- No sunrise period
- The registration price for a IDN will be the same than the one for a classical registration in .EU
- The first who applies will be the first served*.
Don't wait any longer and pre-order now !
* The reservations received before 10 December 2009 will be plaved in a waiting queue which will be launched at the opening of the Go-Live.
The availability of the domain name can be confirmed only after this date.
The registration is based on the 'first come, first served'-principle. A successful registration can not be guaranteed.
